NATIONAL GRID SHARES TIPS ON SAFETY DURING STORMS

January 11, 2007
Table Of Contents:
Summary:
In an effort to best serve its customers, National Grid shares information related to storm safety
Body:

National Grid follows a formula related to priorities during power restoration.  The crews begin restoring service as quickly as possible once safe conditions are established.  Transmission lines and substations that serve a large number of customers are restored first, followed by their critical care customers such as hospitals, nursing homes, and public safety facilities.  Then, primary and secondary lines that serve commercial and residential areas are restored.

National Grid is responsible for clearing storm damaged trees for their electric lines and facilities in order to restore service, allow reasonalbe access for emergency service restoration, or ensure future service reliability.  The cleanup of storm debris removed from National Grid facilities remains the responsibility of the owner of the tree, whether public or private.

Be sure to check out their web site: www.nationalgridus.com to see the excellent information available there.  There is an excellent section on Storm Safety on the site which is well worth viewing and understanding.
