CHANGES TO DOG LICENSING LAW

January 17, 2006
Table Of Contents:
Summary:
Changes took effect on January 15, 2006
Body:

Effective January 15, 2006, the changes in the dog law require that a dog license may not be issed for a time period extending beyoud the expiration date of a dog's rabies certificate.

Dog licenses issued on and after January 15, 2006, must not expire after the expiration date of the dog's rabies certificate. If your dog is due for a rabies vaccination booster during the next year, you must have it boostered now in order to have a full year license.  If you choose not to have your dog vaccinated now you will still need to pay the full annual fee, and you will need to renew your dog license again after it has been vaccinated.

This changes affects all dogs licensed in New York State, except those license in New York City, which has a separate dog licensing law.
