The Highway Department is responsible for the 33 miles of Town Roads. In addition to them, the Department has an agreement with the County to provide some maintenance to 5 miles of County Highways for which it is reimbursed. The Department also provides sanding and snow removal jobs for the Lake George Central School, for which it is reimbursed by the School.
The staff of the Department is twelve. Its equipment includes 6 dump trucks, 2 patrol trucks, 3 pick up trucks, a grader, back hoe, vibratory roller, loader, leaf vac, compressor, portable generator, steam jenny, and 2 street sweepers.
The Highway Department conducts Clean up campaigns in both the spring and fall. During the designated times the Department picks up lawn waste such as leaves, grass, and shrubs which is placed by residents along the road. The times of such programs is publicized in the Post Star.
Although the Department has regular hours, it is ready on notice to respond to weather and other emergencies.
